Juliénas maakt deel uit van de Mâconnais aan de grens van de Saône en Loire en maakt dus deel uit van de Beaujolais. Het dorpjeis klein, heeft ongeveer 800 inwoners en ligt zo’n 15 km van Mâcon en 60 km van Lyon. De wijnbouw is oud en de geschiedenis gaat terug tot 2000 jaar. Kenmerkend aan de wijn is dat de jong gedronken kan worden en enkele jaren bewaard kan worden. De bodem met klei zorgt voor wijnen met aroma’s van perziken, rood fruit en bloemen. De meest voorkomende druif is de Gamay Noire. Deze kan in de Juliénas geweldig groeien. Aanvullend is het toegestaan om tot 15% andere druivenvariëteiten aan te planten. Dit zijn Chardonnay, melon de Bourgogne en Aligoté. Men is er verplicht om hadnmatig te oogsten en het transport van de wijnoogst moet in lage aanhangwagens plaatsvinden om de integriteit van de druif te bewaren. Serveren op een temperatuur van 13°C bij “coq au vin”, gevederd wild en gevogelte in sauzen.
