Brouilly is de zuidelijkste crus van de Beaujolais. Een crus is een wijndorp dat een eigen appellation mag voeren omdat ze hun kwaliteit en eigenheid hebben bewezen. Brouilly is een middelgroot dorp met een goede 1200 ha wijngaard. De wijnen zijn fruitig en kunnen jong gedronken worden. Over het algemeen zijn ze meer fruit gedreven en hebben ze meer body dan andere wijnen uit de Beaujolais. In de praktijk blijken de wijnen alleen behoorlijk te variëren. De veel kleiner crus Cote de Brouilly brengt wijnen voort die langer kunnen ouderen en meer complexiteit kunnen ontwikkelen. In Brouilly worden alleen rode wijnen gemaakt van Gamay.
Mont Brouilly
Cote de Brouilly vormt het geografische centrum van deze wijnregio. De wijngaarden op de helling hebben een andere ondergrond dan de wijngaarden die lager liggen en de Brouilly vormen. Op de helling bestaat de grond uit zand en graniet die de warmte goed vasthouden. De lager gelegen wijngaarden hebben een verschillende ondergronden. In het westen lijkt het meer op die van de helling. Hoe meer je naar het zuiden gaat hoe meer klei je vindt. Hier is de bodem ook vochtiger door de minder drainage van regenwater.
